Outer film, seal continuity and the batch label on the wrap

CurrentLast checked Handover and completenessFragrance

Whether the outer film is a continuous factory wrap, and whether its batch field agrees with the carton.

The reading sequence

3 steps, starting at handover and completeness and running to press the wrap and follow the seal line. Evidence on this point is read at E1, and 1 of the 3 steps carries a condition that ends the assessment outright.

Step 1

Shoot the wrap's corners and one seam

Get evidence of how the film was closed, since folded and taped film is a different process from heat-shrunk film and leaves a different edge.

Evidence: E1 — four photos at the carton's four corners plus one along a full seam, taken at about 20 cm with the light angled across the film rather than through it

Pass
  • All four corners show the same folded triangle, with the film tight and slightly glossy across the face.
  • The seam runs straight along one face and shows a continuous weld line with no tape over it.
Query
  • Three corners are supplied and the fourth is out of frame or in shadow.
  • The film is slightly loose on one face while the corners are still uniformly folded.
Return
  • Clear tape is stuck over a seam or across a corner, holding the film closed by hand.
  • One corner is open, or the film has been cut and re-wrapped with a visible overlap.
Step 2

Read the batch label on the wrap against the carton

Establish that the printed batch field on the outer wrap names the same run as the code printed on the carton beneath it.

Evidence: E1 — one photo showing the wrap's printed batch field and the carton code field in the same frame, taken with the film pressed flat so neither field is distorted

Pass
  • Both code fields are legible in one frame and carry the same string.
  • The wrap label's font, size and spacing match those of the carton print.
Query
  • The film reflects the light so the wrap field reads partly, while the carton field is sharp.
  • The wrap field matches in characters but sits at a slight angle to the carton's own print.
Return
  • The two fields carry different strings, or one field is missing entirely.
  • The wrap label is a plain white sticker with handwriting or thermal print on it.
Stop here if: The wrap's batch field disagrees with the carton code. The outer film belongs to a different run from the box it covers, which is the state a unit passes through when it has been opened and re-wrapped. What to do next.
Step 3

Press the wrap and follow the seal line

Test whether the seal is a weld or a fold, by pressing along the seam and watching what the film does.

Evidence: E1 — a 15 second video of a thumb run slowly along the full length of the seal line on both long faces, camera close to the seam

Pass
  • The seam stays closed along its whole length under light thumb pressure.
  • The film creases and recovers around the pressure point rather than lifting away from the carton.
Query
  • The seam opens by under a millimetre near one corner and closes again when the thumb moves on.
  • The video covers one long face only, leaving the second seam untested.
Return
  • The seam parts along a stretch and the film lifts clear of the carton edge.
  • The film slides freely over the carton because no seal exists on that face at all.

Why the thresholds sit where they do

An intact outer wrap is the only part of a fragrance order that shows whether the unit was handled after it left the filling line, which puts this point last in the sequence without making it cosmetic: a wrap that has been cut and replaced is the visible trace of a bottle having been swapped or opened, and that trace is gone the moment the film comes off. The photos are lit across the film rather than through it because specular reflection off a glossy wrap hides the very seam being judged. The batch field on the wrap is compared with the carton code rather than read on its own, since a wrap printed for one run is routinely used to close a carton from another. Pressing the seam separates a weld from a fold without any tool, and it sits last because it is the one step that alters the thing being judged, however slightly.

0 of 3 steps judged

One row per step. Evidence levels: E1 seller photos before dispatch, E2 your photos after arrival, E3 platform public information, E4 third-party reference only. This covers one judging point; the sequence as a whole is scored on the photo scorecard.
