These are estimates built from published bands and rates, not a customs determination and not tax advice. A revaluation at the border is assessed on the real value.
Parameters: duty.CA.rate (checked 20 Sep 2026) · duty.handling (checked 20 Sep 2026)
How to read the result
- Enter the declared value and the freight separately. In most destinations the freight is part of the taxable value, and leaving it out understates the assessment.
- The low-value line tells you whether this declared value sits under the published threshold used in this model.
- The handling charge appears only when duty is collected at the door, which is why it is a separate row.
- A destination without a recorded band returns no figure rather than a guess.
How it is put together
Taxable value is the declared value plus freight. Duty is that figure multiplied by the destination band; VAT or GST is then applied to the taxable value plus duty. Destinations with a recorded low-value threshold zero the duty and the VAT below it, and also remove the handling charge.
Destination bands, VAT rates and thresholds are recorded per destination with a check date. They sit at the highest review tier because they change without notice.
What it cannot do
- This is an estimate from published bands. It is not a customs determination and it is not tax advice.
- It does not cover restricted goods, licensing, or categories with anti-dumping treatment.
- It cannot tell you what a particular officer will decide on a particular day.
