What do DHgate QC photos actually show?
Direct answer
A QC photograph shows one unit, at one moment, under one light, taken by the party that stands to gain from it. It can show surface, shape, alignment and printed marks. It cannot show how a zip runs, how a sole holds under thumb pressure, how an atomiser sprays, or whether the unit photographed is the unit that will be dispatched. Treat every set as a partial record.
Why
- Photographs carry surfaces, not function. A still frame can hold a mesh count inside a fixed square, a stitch count over a twenty millimetre span, a grain direction across a seam and the print weight of a box label. It cannot carry the resistance of a heel counter, the action of a bezel, or whether a battery holds its charge, all of which need a few seconds of video or a pressure test.
- A photograph is not tied to a unit unless the frame ties it. A clean label shot may come from any box in the room, and a shoe photographed on its own proves nothing about which shoe is inside the carton. Requiring the label, the size tag and the item in one frame is what turns a photograph into evidence about one specific unit rather than about a product in general.
- Lighting decides what is visible. Direct light exaggerates every weave and every surface irregularity, which is why a coarse-looking panel under flash is often an ordinary panel. Soft light flattens coating defects and hides them. Two photographs of the same panel in different light carry more information than four flattering ones, and the difference between them is itself a reading.
- Provenance belongs to the reading, not beside it. A set that arrives unprompted the day before dispatch, with the seller's own hand or a dated note in frame, says something quite different from a folder of images that could have been taken at any time in any month. Ask when the frames were taken and keep the answer with them, because a claim will ask the same question later. A folder with no date, no hand and no context is not a weaker version of the same evidence; it is a different kind of claim altogether, and it should be read as a description of a product rather than as a record of a unit.
When this answer flips
- The seller supplies a scale reference in frame and answers a material question in writing inside the platform message thread. Specificity of that kind is expensive to stage for a substitute unit, and the set becomes usable evidence rather than a set of impressions. One ruled frame is worth more than ten unmeasured ones.
- The photographs arrive before dispatch rather than after arrival, while a replacement is still possible. Images that can still change what ships are worth more than the same frames taken once the parcel is already moving, because the decision they inform is still open and the seller still has an incentive to answer.
- The item is inexpensive enough that returning it would cost more than the item itself. The photographs then only need to answer whether the unit is worth keeping, which is a much lower bar than the one a formal claim sets for evidence, and the reading can stop as soon as that question is answered.
