How to read the result
- Carry the delivered total in from the waterfall rather than typing a unit cost by hand. The typed figure is usually the goods only.
- Break-even is the price at which the sale returns your cost after commission. Anything below it is a loss, and the gauge says so plainly.
- Returns amortisation is part of unit margin. A category with a high return rate needs a higher price for the same result.
- The cost driver list shows what to attack first. It is rarely the goods price.
How it is put together
Unit delivered cost is the landed total divided by quantity. Break-even divides that by one minus the commission rate. Unit margin subtracts the delivered cost, the commission on the sale price, and a returns amortisation term built from the category return rate.
Commission is your input. Return rates and the resale loss share come from the recorded parameters.
What it cannot do
- It does not model holding costs, storage or the time between paying and selling.
- Resale prices are your input. This desk records what buyers paid, not what you can charge.
- It does not account for platform fees that apply to the buyer rather than the seller.
